Grand Marshall Larry McClure has been chosen to preside as over the 2011 Crawfish Festival Parade. Larry is a tireless volunteer in our community and was selected by the Chamber to receive the 2011 Spirit of Tualatin Award.
Larry and his wife Ellie moved to Tualatin in May, 1972 with their one-year old son Doug. Two years later their twins Jennifer and Andrew were born. All attended Tualatin schools (except for high school still in Tigard at that time).
Larry and Ellie devote a lot of their time to Hilltop (Tualatin United Methodist) Church and helped move the congregation to its new location at Tualatin’s highest point above Fred Meyer on Martinazzi. His volunteer church-related responsibiliies include oversight of outdoor programs operated by the United Methodist Church in Oregon and Idaho such as Camp Magruder in Rockaway..
Larry was an educaton researcher for 30 years until retiring in 2001. At that point he became active in Tualatin Historical Society (THS) and worked with other THS and community members to save and move the old 1926 Methodist church and transform it to the Tualatin Heritage Center in 2006 where he serves as its director today.
Over the years, Larry has also been part of other community activities. He is on the board of directors for Willowbrook (summer arts camp at Browns Ferry Park), a member of the Tualatin Tomorrow vision implementation committee, and the Tualatin Chamber of Commerce.
At the state and national levels, Larry is committed to interpreting the Lewis and Clark Trail and its legacies for new generations.
Larry and Ellie are proud of their 7 grandchildren living in Puyallup, Washington and Marietta, Georgia.
